Tips for New Blogger trying to get approved on Social Spark

I put out a call for people looking for advice to help get their blog(s) approved through social spark.

One of the first few responses I received came from a blogger named Osuji

Hello Mr Brett,
Thank you so much for that wonderful enlightenment about SocialSpark and your Live Writers site, I have honestly been looking forward to meeting you and probably getting help from you.
I actually signed up for Social Spark, but i kept on receiving a declining message, that my blog each time gets declined.
I don’t know how else to get it approved as i have tried to update it every time with nice content and information.
So i will gladly appreciate your effort and assistance in helping get approved and making my blog reach that height it should be.
Its a blog site (
http://www.busyhomes.blogspot.com) that blogs about business opportunities on the internet.
I really wish to hear from you as to how we can work together to first help me get approved on Social Spark and further enhance the quality of my blog business wise.
Thank you very much once again, for writing me.
Osuji Ogadimma
BusyHomes.

I took a look at Osuji’s blog and here are my initial recommendations.

Making these improvements will definitely help Osuji’s chances for getting this or any other blog approved in Social Spark, but I want to point out that writing more unique content is really the key here.

Note a search on the first blog article title yields dozens of articles with the same exact title.

see Google Search on Five brilliant ideas for traffic generation

Most of the recommendations below can be resolved with a little more time, but the perception of unique & interesting content is really the main goal.  Currently the content feels a little too generic.

Ads on the site from day 1 – Good or Bad?

image[3]There are several ads and sponsored articles on the site.  I don’t have a problem with that at all.  In fact, I encourage this.  However, I encourage this because I think bloggers need to learn from day one how to generate the right balance on their site between useful unique content and the advertising that funds their efforts.  Currently this site is too far out of balance and that will definitely hurt its chances of helping readers and performing well ($$) for the publisher and writer.

Don’t Forget to Verify Your Blog with Social Spark by Installing the Code!

Make sure your blog status looks like the example on the right.  You need to claim the blog to show that you control it, you need to install the code provided by Social Spark, and then it should take a couple days for Social Spark to ‘verify’ that the code is installed correctly.

  • Elegant code splitting with GWT
Update February 17, 2010: I forgot to mention that if you need FIFO guarantees today and don’t mind losing some of the conciseness, Jarrod Carlson has a nice solution posted here. • Moving On
For the last three and a half years, it’s been my distinct pleasure to be part of the Windows Live Writer team. Update Feb 13 2009: The updated version of Writer that fixes this problem is now available. You can upgrade to version 14.0.8064.206 from our usual download page. Ack. Hopefully, folks who use both Windows Live Writer and Twitter know about the Twitter Notify plugin we released in December. • Tags, Writer, and WordPress
Ever since WordPress 2.3 hit the scene, adding native tagging support, there’s been some (understandable) confusion as to whether Windows Live Writer supports tags, and how it relates to WP native tags. Hopefully this post will clear things up. If you’re using WordPress 2.3.1 or later, look for either Keywords or Tags near the bottom of [...] […]
  • “Instant photo” border treatment
In case you’re wondering what the “instant photo” border treatment feature is, here’s an example.   It plays nice with the Crop and Tilt features. No, you cannot currently provide a caption to be written on the border. If that’s important to you, you might consider the “Polaroid Picture” plug-in. […]
